Project Empathy Comes to the Seacoast and Maine

ABC World Citizens is delighted to collaborate with Green Acre, a Baha’i Center of Learning in Eliot, Maine in sponsoring “Project Empathy” a performance-based learning experience in which people of diverse backgrounds are tasked with telling each other’s true stories.

The people chosen and paired for the project come from different cultural, racial and age backgrounds and in working together over many weeks learn to tell each other’s stories in a theatre performance. The paired new friends discover greater understanding and increased empathy and often a spirit of unity in spite of great differences in life experiences and cultural backgrounds. Who doesn’t want more of that?

The concept of Project Empathy was created by Boston-based creative, marketer, and entrepreneur Catherine Cote in February 2017 while studying in Melbourne, Australia as an experimental answer to the social division and lack of deep conversation she was experiencing.

Proejct Empathy participants Project Empathy has now been performed on two continents with the latest presentations at Green Acre in Eliot, ME, and at Seacoast Repertory Theatre in Portsmouth, NH. It is Catherine’s hope that universities, theaters, and communities around the world will experience its power for themselves.

We all have stories to tell, and we all have the capacity for empathy. We do have the ability to experience “unity in diversity” through the arts and in our sustained efforts at community building.

Come and join the heartwarming, eye opening and enlightening real stories!
